The County want to encourage more schools to take part in hockey and also in competitions, at a local, regional and national level. This is inline with the stated aims of the EHB. Much has been done to encourage clubs to build links with schools in their catchment areas through the Clubs First programme. If your school doesn't currently have a link, please contact the Director of Coaching.
In 2012, The County and a number of clubs helped in the running of a Quicksticks competition for Primary Schools that was run on a district basis, with the district winners going through to a final that was part of the Herts School Games. This is to be repeated this coming year with the finals taking place on June 28th 2012 at the University of Hertfordshire (for more details see www.hertsschoolgames.co.uk).
All national competitions are school only and are organised for boys and for girls separately. U11 and U13 competitions are 7 a-side with a fully kitted goalkeeper played on half a pitch. The U14, U16 and U18 competitions are 11 a-side and are played on a full pitch. County U11-U13 rounds are scheduled to be played in February with the U14-U18 girls activity starting in September and the U14-U18 boys activity starting in January. School teams can also enter the indoor competitions. These competition start in November and are 6 a-side with a fully kitted goalkeeper. See Girls Competitions and Boys COmpetitions for further details.
